building better
When the Neil Huffman Automotive Group made the strategic decision to relocate its Acura dealership to Jeffersontown, Kentucky, the move represented more than expansion — it marked a reinvestment in the brand, the team, and the surrounding community. The goal was to create a modern, state-of-the-art dealership that elevated the customer experience while supporting long-term operational growth. To bring that vision to life, the ownership group partnered with Buffalo Construction to lead the project from site development through final delivery.
The project consisted of a nearly 40,000-square-foot, ground-up automotive retail facility designed in accordance with Acura’s national brand standards. The scope included full site development, underground utilities, parking and inventory display lots, site lighting, and exterior improvements supporting both customer and service circulation. The building features a contemporary showroom with expansive glazing, private sales offices, reception and lounge areas, administrative space, and a fully integrated service department with multiple service bays, parts storage, and a dedicated service drive. Premium finishes, ACM panel detailing, and durable service-area materials were carefully coordinated to balance elevated aesthetics with long-term functionality in a high-traffic automotive environment.
From the outset, partnership defined the process. Ownership engagement was active and collaborative, and the Buffalo team maintained steady communication throughout. As Kim Huffman shared during the ribbon cutting celebration:
“I truly enjoyed this experience of working with each one of you. I can’t express how many questions we asked, and you provided thoughtful solutions with professional respect.”
— Kim Huffman, Owner, Neil Huffman Automotive Group
That transparency became especially important as the project encountered significant environmental challenges.
Construction progressed through prolonged heavy rains, hurricane-force winds from a named storm system, winter snow conditions, and even a tornado that caused substantial site disruption — overturning the superintendent’s on-site trailer in the process. These events required continuous safety evaluations, schedule adjustments, and disciplined field leadership to maintain progress. Despite those conditions, the completion target remained firm.
Compounding complexity, ownership elected to integrate a car wash addition while construction was already underway. Incorporating the expanded scope required coordinated infrastructure planning, utility adjustments, and sequencing modifications — all without jeopardizing the critical path. Through structured planning and proactive communication, the team-maintained clarity and control.
Huffman later reflected on the performance outcome:
“We wanted by November 15th, 2025 to have this building completed, and they slayed it by having it completed ahead of schedule despite the rains, hurricane winds and a tornado. Who do you know that does that? Seriously.”
— Kim Huffman
Delivering ahead of schedule under those conditions underscores the value of early coordination, disciplined schedule management, and responsive leadership in the field.
Beyond measurable performance, the relational aspect of the partnership left a lasting impression. Huffman emphasized the level of trust developed throughout the process:
“You’ve become an extended part of the Huffman family. This wasn’t just a construction project for us — it was a major investment and a big step forward for our organization. The way your team showed up, communicated, and stood behind your commitments made it feel like we were building this together.”
— Kim Huffman
Today, the completed dealership stands as a modern automotive retail destination positioned for long-term growth in the Jeffersontown market. Huffman expressed pride in the finished facility, noting that the team created a beautiful space that represents their future and will serve employees and customers for years to come.
Ground-up automotive facilities demand more than structural execution. They require brand compliance, infrastructure foresight, operational awareness, and the ability to adapt to unpredictable conditions without compromising delivery. At Neil Huffman Acura, Buffalo Construction demonstrated that even amid severe weather events and evolving scope, disciplined leadership and strong partnership can produce exceptional results.
The ribbon cutting marked not simply the opening of a building, but the realization of a shared vision — delivered ahead of schedule, built with resilience, and positioned for sustained success.
